Beauty{Fall}| Makeup Inspiration

Colors mimicking your favorite Malbec, warm and rich; shades of marsala and mustard, apricot and eggplant…Fall is full of inspiration. The time of year we switch from rosé, to pumpkin spiced everything; and hints of autumn reveal themselves in the warm colors of foliage, and the beauty in aging leaves, synonymous with cooler climates.

My BeautyFall inspiration was inspired by the certainty in, and embracing of, transition…literally, and figuratively. An edit on my everyday red…an upgrade of a clean eye…with colors that feel like the leftovers of summer, and the anticipation of autumn.

What I love about this NARS eyeshadow, is how beautifully deceptive it is. For a complexion like mine, at first glance its impact isn’t obvious. However, on the skin, it warms up the eye with a hint of sparkle. {On a lighter complexion, it works as a beautiful shadow liner by day, and smokey eye by night. :)}

I wanted my lips layered with an intense base tempered with warm shades of red like the depth of autumn leaves, as if I’d kissed the leaves of The Cloisters’ trees.

As days become shorter, sunsets seem so much more intense. A walk through Fort Tryon Park was the perfect in-between-seasons moment. Mother Nature’s torment between what was Summer, and what is becoming, Fall.

fleur•tation | A Summer Style Inspiration

The first days of Summer ignite memories of a biting New York City night in February, when MoMa stayed open until dawn, and the cool-kid locals, diverse in both age and ethnicity, emerged to get a glimpse into the mind of Henri Matisse

Prior to attending the exhibit, I Netflix’d Barbara Freed’s ‘A Model for Matisse’…a documentary recounting their relationship (described by Matisse as a ‘fleur-tation’ ) between the artist and Sister Jacques-Marie, the nurse who would become his muse; the chapel she would inspire, and he would later create…with traces of his gouaches découpés, or ‘cut-outs,‘ of stained paper, synchronously and subtly expressed in the stained glass windows of the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence.

The documentary pulled me closer to the art, to the artist; and his brain, seemingly made of vibrant color, and adventure…The Cut-Outs, with intentional fluidity of shape, directly inspired my Summer theme…to live vibrantly, in flowy, flirty, unstructured pieces of bold color, celebrating femininity…

…Summer beauty of cheekbones ‘cutout’ with bronzer, slow-grinding against the boldness of NARS-blushed cheeks that smile to the beat of Mark Ronson’s ‘Summer Breaking’…bold liquid liner for Friday night eyes, on a Tuesday…and lips stained to last, and you know, last…;)

‘A fleur-tation…What takes place between us is like a shower of flowers- rose petals that we throw at each other.’ ~Henri Matisse
